FAQ's

  • What is a Key Safe? +

A Key safe is a strong mechanical metal box that securely stores the key/s to your door/s inside.

It is installed into brick or concrete and your keys are accessed by a combination code. This code is easy to set and can be changed when appropriate to maintain security.

  • Why Do I Need A Key Safe? +

For anyone who requires multiple visitors but either cannot or has difficulty getting to the door, the Key safe represents a much safer method of allowing authorised persons entry into your property. No more keys under the mat, no more doors left on the latch and no more issuing lots of keys to relatively unknown people. The key safe also works hand in hand with community alarm services, providing access in the event of an emergency should the key holder be unavailable, preventing Police forced entries and resulting damage to properties. • Can A Key Safe Be Broken Into? +

In accordance with fitting instructions, whenever possible the key safe should be fitted covertly, out of sight. Remember, for somebody to potentially break into the box, they need to know it's fitted.

Assuming an opportunist finds the key safe and decides to try to get into it, there are two ways of opening the box. The first way is by entering the code. As the opportunist won't know the code, and as long as clients have followed our advice in choosing and setting a code, there would be a possible 1024 to 4096 attempts before he or she could gain access. With some of our key safes offering 5 – 7 code range choices, having a realistic chance of accessing the box means that he or she would have to enter all of the 1 digit code possibilities, all of the 2 digit code possibilities, all of the 3 digit code possibilities and so on, a very lengthy process and all on the basis that there may be a key inside.

The other way is to knock the box off the wall and then smash it to pieces, not only noisy and time consuming, the opportunist would need tools such as a large hammer and chisel and as it is an offence in itself being equipped to commit a burglary, most opportunist thieves do not risk carrying around such equipment.

An opportunist thief is much more likely to shoulder a door or break a window, accessing and leaving the property in a fraction of the time it would take to overcome a key safe.

Why bother trying to overcome a key safe when there are clearly much quicker and easier ways of breaking and entering?

  • Should I Fit The Key Safe By My Front Door? +

No. It is a common misconception that because the key safe generally stores the front door key, it has to be mounted next to the front door.

As the key safe doesn't require a power supply, or doesn't operate the door, it can be located anywhere. Meter boxes, bin bays, porches, the side or rear of the property or even bolted to the floor - the options are unlimited.

All the key safes come complete with protective covers, so wherever you choose to site the key safe, always where possible fit the cover, it not only protects the keys from rain, it also disguises the box, leaving it looking similar to an electrical junction box.
